Overview of the amount states and territories borrow from the Unemployment Trust Fund in order to pay out unemployment benefits and the interest.
The Advances to State Unemployment Funds (Social Security Act Title XII) dataset shows how much states and territories are borrowing from the Unemployment Trust Fund in order to pay out unemployment benefits and the interest. This includes the state or territories' outstanding borrowing balance, amount they are authorized to borrow for the current month, current month borrowings, interest accrued for current fiscal year, and interest received.
The states and territories represented in this dataset are those that have been approved to borrow by the Department of Labor and/or have an outstanding borrowing balance with the Unemployment Trust Fund. The Advance Activities Schedule for September 17th through the 30th will have an interest received column for the states paying the interest due by September 30th. The accrual of interest on state advances has been deferred until December 31, 2020 by Section 1202(b)(10)(A) of the Social Security Act as amended by Section 4103 of PL 116-127.
